The Minister emphasized that the Ambassador assumes her role as Vietnam-Cambodia ties continue to strengthen. Political cooperation remains the cornerstone of the relationship, with Party-to-Party relations playing a guiding role in shaping overall bilateral ties.

Based on this solid foundation, cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and Cambodian law enforcement has become increasingly practical and effective. Security and police forces from both countries have coordinated closely to protect major political events and high-level official visits, ensuring that no individual or organization uses one country’s territory to compromise the security and interests of the other. Joint operations have also dismantled major cyber fraud and drug trafficking rings, successfully rescuing thousands of victims.

Amid complex global and regional developments directly impacting both nations' security, Minister Luong Tam Quang called for closer, more effective cooperation grounded in the consensus reached by top leaders under the motto of "good neighborliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability."

Overview of the meeting.

He urged the swift and effective execution of high-level agreements reached during the summit between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and the Standing Committee of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) Central Committee, as well as the trilateral meeting of party leaders from Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in February 2026. These agreements reaffirm security cooperation as a central pillar of Vietnam-Cambodia relations.

Minister Luong Tam Quang stressed the need to fulfill signed commitments to safeguard national security and maintain social order. He highlighted joint efforts to combat transnational crime, specifically drug trafficking, cyber fraud, and human trafficking, while expediting victim rescues and the extradition of suspects and criminal evidence.

Furthermore, he proposed expanding the bilateral legal framework by negotiating new agreements to provide a stronger foundation for law enforcement and security operations.

Minister Luong Tam Quang also noted that the Vietnamese MPS and the Cambodian Ministry of Interior plan to organize a "Vietnam-Cambodia Police Friendship Exchange" in late 2026, requesting the Ambassador's support to ensure its success.

Reaffirming that the MPS remains a trusted partner, Minister Luong Tam Quang pledged full support to help Ambassador Sopharath fulfill her mission and drive bilateral relations into a new phase of growth.
