Strengthening Viet Nam–Cambodia security cooperation

Speaking at the meeting, Minister Luong Tam Quang congratulated Cambodia on successfully hosting the International Conference on Combating Online Scams from September 23 to 24.

He expressed confidence that, with the determination of the Cambodian Government and the strong support of the international community, Cambodia would continue achieving positive results in combating online scams.

Regarding bilateral security and law enforcement cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang noted that the two sides had regularly maintained their Joint Working Group to strengthen coordination in preventing and combating transnational crime.

He thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Sar Sokha for his attention, direction and facilitation of cooperation between the two countries’ police forces.

Minister Luong Tam Quang affirmed that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security stood ready to coordinate with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior to ensure security and safety for the upcoming 20th Francophonie Summit.

He added that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security would provide support within its capacity in terms of vehicles and equipment, and was prepared to send experts to Cambodia to provide training and build the capacity of its relevant forces.

Regarding future cooperation, Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the two sides discuss the possibility of signing the 2027 Cooperation Plan between the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security and the Cambodian Ministry of Interior.

The document could be signed when a delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security accompanies State President To Lam to Cambodia for the 20th Francophonie Summit, scheduled for November 2026.

Thanking Minister Luong Tam Quang for the meeting, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Sokha highly appreciated the increasingly close and effective friendship and cooperation between the Cambodian Ministry of Interior and the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security.

He particularly highlighted cooperation in combating transnational crime and online scams, apprehending wanted fugitives, and ensuring security and safety for major events hosted by each country.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Sar Sokha expressed his hope that the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security would continue strengthening comprehensive cooperation with the Cambodian Ministry of Interior.
