Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long has talks with Cambodian National Police Chief

Deputy Minister of Public Security Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Long had talks with Chief of the National Police of Cambodia General Sar Thet to discuss measures to strengthen cooperation in combating online scams involving citizens of the two countries, on the morning of October 29 in Phnom Penh.

Welcoming Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long to Cambodia, General Sar Thet underlined that the visit would contribute to strengthening bilateral cooperation in crime prevention and control, especially when drug trafficking, human trafficking and cross-border online scams, become more and more complex.

The host stressed that such crimes are likely to threaten public security, social order and the safety of citizens, requiring functional forces of the two countries to enhance coordination to prevent and combat.

Speaking at the talks, Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Long highly appreciated Cambodia’s strong determination and positive results of combating online fraud in recent times, while hailing the establishment of the National Commission for Combating Online Scams and provincial-level committees to suppress cyber fraud and cyber-related crimes.

The guest noted that law enforcement forces of the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Interior of Cambodia had strengthened their coordination and dismantled several major criminal networks and rescued numerous victims, as well as joined efforts to carry out public law dissemination campaigns targeting people living in border areas of the two countries.

During the talks, the two sides agreed to consider establishing a joint expert working group to maintain regular information exchange in combating crimes in general and cyber fraud in particular.

They also agreed to intensify information sharing on groups or individuals violating social order in Vietnam or Cambodia, as well as to exchange intelligence on transnational criminal networks.

The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in tracking and arresting criminals wanted by one country hiding in the other, and conduct joint operations to rescue citizens of both countries who are victims of online scams and cyber-related crimes, contributing to maintaining security, social order and the safety of the people of Vietnam and Cambodia.
