Ministry of Public Security ready to expand participation in UN peacekeeping operations
As parts of his official schedule while accompanying General Secretary and State President To Lam to attend the High-Level General Debate of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly and bilateral activities in the United States, Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang held bilateral meetings with UN officials and received executive leaders of major U.S. corporations, in New York on September 22, 2026 (local time).

* At UN Headquarters, Minister Luong Tam Quang held a working session with UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
During the meeting, Under-Secretary-General Jean-Pierre Lacroix spoke highly of Viet Nam’s contributions to UN peacekeeping operations, particularly the participation of People's Public Security officers. He expressed his desire for the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security to further expand its involvement in UN Police (UNPOL) peacekeeping missions.
Minister Luong Tam Quang reaffirmed Viet Nam’s commitment to stepping up its participation in UN peacekeeping activities. He requested UN support for Viet Nam’s participation in peacekeeping operations, as well as create favorable conditions for Vietnamese officers to work as experts at UN agencies.
On this occasion, Minister Luong Tam Quang invited the leadership of the UN Department of Peace Operations to co-chair an International Workshop on Female Peacekeeping Police Officers in Viet Nam in early 2027.
* At the meeting between Minister Luong Tam Quang and UN Under-Secretary-General for Technology Amandeep Singh Gill, the UN official hailed Viet Nam's efforts in digital governance and cybercrime prevention, notably the recent signing of a Letter of Intent with the UN to establish the Asia-Pacific Regional Cybercrime Prevention and Control Center in Viet Nam.
Minister Luong Tam Quang proposed that the UN partner with Viet Nam to effectively implement the Ha Noi Convention, assist in digital forensics training, collaborate on the responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI) in law enforcement, and facilitate the placement of Vietnamese experts within UN technology mechanisms.
At the conclusion of the session, both sides stressed the necessity of strengthening capacities to address non-traditional security and cybersecurity challenges, while advancing global technology governance in the digital era. They also agreed to bolster cooperation regarding electronic evidence, digital forensics, online fraud prevention, specialized training, and technical assistance.
* At the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations, Minister Luong Tam Quang received representatives from BlackRock Investment Management and Cantor Fitzgerald.

During the reception, Minister Luong Tam Quang highlighted Viet Nam’s determination to innovate its growth model, aiming for double-digit economic growth during the 2026–2030 period and achieving developed-nation status by 2045. He urged international financial groups to increase long-term, high-quality capital flows to support Viet Nam in building strategic infrastructure, developing financial markets, and driving digital and green transitions.
Meeting with executives of The Asia Group (TAG), the Minister highly appreciated the group’s bridging role in fostering the Viet Nam–U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He encouraged TAG to continue assisting Viet Nam in attracting high-quality investment while objectively conveying Viet Nam's reform efforts and intellectual property protection achievements to international partners.
On the same day, Minister Luong Tam Quang also received executive leaders of AMECOM Corporation.
