Vietnam, Thailand strengthen cooperation in combating human trafficking

The Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand jointly held a bilateral conference on preventing and combating trafficking in persons, on March 11 in Hanoi.

The conference aimed to share information, working experience, and promote coordination between the competent authorities of the two countries in combating human trafficking crimes.

Deputy Director of the Department of Foreign Relations under the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam Senior Colonel Nguyen Hoa Chi and Chief of Office of the Thai Ministry of Social Development and Human Security Napaporn Makapongumpai co-chaired the conference.

During the event, the two sides reviewed the current situation of human trafficking crimes in the region and in each country, discussed emerging tricks and tactics used by transnational criminal networks and exchanged their experiences in prevention, detection, investigation and prosecution of such crimes.

They also shared their practices in providing protection, assistance and community reintegration support for victims of trafficking.

Both sides acknowledged the positive outcomes achieved through cooperation between Vietnamese and Thai authorities in recent years, particularly in information exchange, joint verification of citizens of each country, victim rescue and the dismantling of human trafficking networks involving foreign elements.

The two sides also emphasized the importance of maintaining regular dialogue mechanisms and strengthening coordination among law enforcement agencies and relevant organizations to improve the effectiveness of anti-trafficking efforts.

At the conference, the two sides agreed to continue promoting bilateral cooperation in several areas, including enhancing operational information exchange, coordinating investigations of trafficking cases, strengthening capacity building for competent forces, promoting public awareness of preventing human trafficking, taking efficient preventive measures, and supporting victims of human trafficking.

They also agreed to effectively implement the Action Plan for Phase IV of the Agreement between the two countries on human trafficking prevention and control.

At the conclusion of the conference, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining close coordination in order to ensure security and social order in each country and to further promote the good cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Thailand.

The conference took place in an open, frank and constructive atmosphere, contributing to further strengthening cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries in the fight against human trafficking crimes.
