Quang Tri Provincial Police Department strengthens cooperation with Lao counterparts

The Quang Tri Provincial Police Department of Vietnam and the Public Security Departments of Salavan, Savannakhet and Champasak provinces of Laos recently held talks and signed a bilateral cooperation memorandum for the 2025–2026 period, in Quang Tri province.

During the talks, leaders of the four provincial police departments acknowledged and highly appreciated the cooperation results between the two countries’ police forces in maintaining security and order along the shared borderlines over the past time. Particularly, the two sides coordinated closely in grasping the situation and regularly exchanging and handling security- and order-related information in an effective manner.

Further, the two countries’ police forces effectively cooperated in combating drug-related crime, contributing significantly to safeguarding national security, ensuring social order and further strengthening the traditional friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The head delegates reached consensus on key orientations for the bilateral cooperation in the coming period, focusing on proactively grasping the security situation along the shared borderlines, regularly exchanging information on national security issues and criminal activities, and jointly advising local Party committees and authorities of the two countries to promote the public awareness of crime prevention and combat, and encourage people of the two countries to comply with the laws and policies of their countries.

They also agreed to strengthen coordination in combating crimes along the shared borderline, effectively implement the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime, enhance the effectiveness of Border Liaison Offices (BLOs) and maintain the “hotlines” for timely information exchange in support of joint crime prevention and suppression efforts.

Additionally, they agreed to step up delegation exchanges and share experience across various policing fields to meet task requirements in the new situation.
