Nghe An police instruct local students to prevent “online kidnapping”

The Cybersecurity and Hi-tech Crimes Division under the Nghe An Provincial Police Department, in coordination with Vinh University, organized a public information program on the evening of October 15, showing local students how to avoid “online kidnapping” and to use social networks safely and responsibly.

During the program, students and lecturers were updated on common approaches, methods and tricks employed by cybercriminals to kidnap people, especially young ones, online, as well as learnt preventive measures and strategies to respond to situations of being isolated or coerced in cyberspace.

Police officers also narrated several real-life “online kidnapping” cases, which had occurred in Nghe An province, including the one involving students at Vinh University, helping participants recognize potential risks and know how deal with each situation.

In addition to raising the public awareness of preventing online kidnapping, police officers also guided participants toward the safe, effective and lawful use of social networks, as well as provided them with key legal regulations and acts of violations in cyberspace.

Through the event, the police aimed to warn the community about cybercrime dangers, particularly “online kidnapping,” helping educational institutions and students — a group of population increasingly targeted by cybercrime, enhance their vigilance against the type of crime.
